Zé dos Castelos

Zé was born in 1971, in Torres Vedras, Portugal. Zé only draws castles. He believes this fact is connected to his past lives. Sometimes he feels frustrated because, although he enjoys and has worked in other formats, he always returns to pencil and his castles. Metaphorically, this unconscious act mirrors his life’s journey – full of experiments and different paths, labyrinthine plans, allegories and connections between time and space: 365 rooms for 365 days, 52 corridors for 52 weeks, seven floors and 24 inner courtyards. His greatest life ambition is to live in a castle of his own creation, while living with the nostalgia of never fulfilling that dream. He has been a Manicómio artist since 2019.
