Biography

Micaela Fikoff was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1965, to a Bulgarian father and a Brazilian mother of Swiss origin. Her connection with Portugal, however, has always been present. This cultural mix gives her access to very different worlds, which surely enrich her imagination. From a very young age, she immersed herself in the visual arts and crafts, and perhaps this intimacy is the key to her highly intuitive artistic expression.

She graduated in textile design from Polimoda, in Florence, Italy, and although her professional path later took her into other areas, this background remains present in her work.

She moved to Lisbon in 2020 and has been a Manicómio artist since 2021, exhibiting regularly ever since. Highlights include participation in O Outro como epifania do belo (Museu de São Roque, Lisboa, 2021), Limiar da Trilogia (Fidelidade Arte, Lisboa, 2022), Micaela Fikoff (ciclo Symposium da Loucura, Ordem dos Médicos – Sul, Lisboa, 2022), Perdido mas não tanto (Casa Fernando Pessoa, Lisboa, 2023), 5ª Bienal Internacional de Arte Gaia (Vila Nova de Gaia, 2023) and Rescue Op (Pavilhão 31/ CHPL, Lisboa, 2023).
