Biography

Joana Ramalho was born in 1990, in Lisbon. She studied Painting and Drawing at Ar.Co (2010), attended the Fine Arts degree at Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias, Lisbon, and completed a Postgraduate course in Painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Lisbon (2017).

Her periods of hospitalisation were accompanied by poetry books, which became the starting point for the work she develops today. She specialises in Painting and Drawing, with a particular interest in calligraphy.

She has taken part in several group exhibitions, including Não há amor, só existem provas de amor, Centro Cultural de Belém, Lisboa (2015); 12×12, Galeria Arte Graça, Lisboa (2019); Poster, Arte Pública em Marvila, Lisboa (2020); Feira Internacional de Arte Bruta Outsider Art Fair, Nova Iorque (2020); e Incómodo, Museu Municipal de Faro (2020). Her first solo exhibition, Em Suspenso, no 86 Cocktail Bar, em Lisboa (2019). Joana Ramalho has been represented by Manicómio since 2019.
