Cláudia R. Sampaio

Cláudia R. Sampaio was born in 1981, in Lisbon. She studied at the School of Theatre and Cinema, having worked as a screenwriter in film and television, but currently dedicates herself exclusively to literary writing, as well as painting and ceramic sculpture.

She has published seven poetry books to date: Os dias da corja (2014), A primeira urina da manhã (2015), Ver no escuro (2016), 1025mg (2017), Outro nome para a solidão (2018), Já não me deito em pose de morrer (2020) e Uma mulher aparentemente viva She has contributed to various poetry magazines and anthologies and wrote a theatre text commissioned by Culturgest for the 10th edition of the Panos festival (2017). Her work has also been published in Brazil. She was one of the Portuguese poets invited to the Guadalajara Book Fair, Mexico, in 2019.

Her visual art first appeared at the Outsider Art Fair, New York (2020), and since then in several group exhibitions, such as Incómodo (Museu Municipal de Faro, 2020), O Outro como epifania do belo (Museu de São Roque, Lisboa, 2021), Limiar da Trilogia (Fidelidade Arte, Lisboa, 2022), Alta para ensaio (Ar.Co, Lisbon, 2022–23), and the 5th International Art Biennial of Gaia (Vila Nova de Gaia, 2023). Cláudia R. Sampaio has been represented by Manicómio since 2018.
