We the Mad Ones (here we await you)
We the Mad Ones (here we await you) aims to create new artistic practices and approaches in mental health, focusing on human rights and innovation in psychiatric units.
Through the creation of artistic creation and freedom rooms for people with experience of mental illness who live or stay in psychiatric contexts, and also through the introduction of mental health and human rights innovation tools and techniques for the staff of these institutions, We the Mad Ones creates conditions for the development of continuous and artistically valuable workshops, with a focus on recovery, empowerment, and human rights. It also engages professionals in the construction of more positive, creative, and humanised psychiatric spaces, with the ultimate goal of creating paradigms of value and happiness for both residents/people with experience of mental illness and the staff of psychiatric units within this ecosystem.

Ateliers
We create experimental drawing and painting workshops using materials from Viarco, and we work weekly with residents through artist mediators.
Workshops
We conduct training sessions with psychiatric unit staff – from management to auxiliary technicians – on mental health innovation, human rights, and recovery.
Exhibitions
We produce exhibitions across the country featuring selected works from our artistic workshops.
Our partner Viarco
We the Mad Ones (here we await you) is run by the Manicómio and Viarco, the la). Over the past 15 years, Viarco Viarco has transformed its technical knowledge into creative products, with tools and materials for artistic production in graphite, as well as its own workshop. This space allows the company to establish close relationships with artists from around the world and within Portugal, through residencies, exhibitions, studios, and research.
